Song A Day #289. “Treasure Island.”
sailing into half moon bay
i spy a ship in great decay
fresh gunpowder on the breeze
the twilight rustle of palm trees
seeking shelter on the shore
snakes dance on the jungle floor
human bones in a shallow grave
floating torch leads to a cave
the oracle of singing skull
leads the way, the moon is full
one knock two, then three, then four
she leads us through temple door
musty curtains and and rusty chains
booby traps and old blood stains
carefully with each step we creep
following voices from the deep
endless stairs spiral down
in the stillness i felt i’d drown
finally the dark was cleared
on this earth all roads led here
there was my love with cloaked guard
levitating breathing hard
she said heavy mountains, glowing birds
it was the last thing i ever heard
within my body my bones did shake
all around around me the earth did quake
i was falling down down down
and we are buried with the treasure now
